A lifeguard's main responsibility is to keep patrons safe, maintain a clean facility, and have an excellent customer service mentality under direct supervision of the Aquatics Manager.
Lifeguards must be prepared to act responsibly in emergency situations, prevent emergencies from occurring, and enforce all facility rules. This job description is intended to provide general information about the position. As with all positions, the duties of this position may change. Essential functions include attending in-service training, understanding and following all Country Day policies and procedures, properly maintaining facility cleanliness, performing basic facility operations, enforcing facility rules, and limited exposure to pool chemicals, including chlorine. All other facility specific needs deemed important by Director of Athletics, Aquatics Manager and or any full-time aquatics/athletics staff member. Any other duties and/or tasks as assigned.
Qualifications include being at least 15 years of age, having, or being willing to obtain, a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard/ CPR/ First Aid/ AED Certification, and the ability to perform water rescues on victims of any weight and height. Position requires walking, squatting, pushing (up to 50 lbs), pulling (up to 50 lbs), use of sight and vocal projection, standing, carrying (up to 50lbs), and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
Requirements include successfully completing and maintaining Lifeguard certifications and others as deemed necessary by the Aquatics Manager, presenting a professional, mature image, and having excellent interpersonal communication skills and responsibility.
